Flash 10.2.159.1 for portable browsers

UPDATE because quite a few people still seem to land on this page: a current portable version of Flash is available in the Flash category (usually it’s the top post, sometimes it might be a little bit below).
Edit: all links are dead anyway because MU got shut down and Filesonic shut itself down

The version presented below is outdated, lacks the latest and coolest features and most likely is full of exploited security vulnerabilities. Long story short: it’s a bad idea to download it unless you know what you’re doing.

Here is again a new version of the Adobe Flash Player: version 10.2 final aka 10.2.152.26 (now updated to 10.2.159.1). The funny thing is, it’s a lower version than the preview :D. And the other funny thing is, I noticed the version update by checking the stats: you guys are coming here after querying for Flash 10.2 (and I’m sorry that until now you’ve only been able to find the beta – on a side note don’t hesitate to leave a comment if there is a new version that I yet haven’t uploaded, I don’t really upgrade my Flash player often so there’s usually some delay before I even realize there’s a new version).

To use that Flash portable, usual instructions: unpack it into the plugin folder for your browser, that is:

  • Firefox Portable: Data/plugins
  • Opera USB: program/plugins
  • Iron or Chrome Portable: Iron/plugins

Note that flashplayer.xpt doesn’t seem to be useful, but is still included as it’s not really space-consuming ;). This is the 32 bits version, as I don’t think the 64 bits version is ready yet (for some reason that version keeps getting postponed, with only rare updates in Adobe Labs (I think the latest one is here, published in November 2010).

Anyway, here it is, the zip containing NPSWF32.dll and flashplayer.xpt. And for the first time I’ve also included a mirror so you can choose your download host between megaupload and filesonic πŸ™‚

Older versions

  • Flash 10.2.153.1 for portable browsers (MegaUpload) (FileSonic) (both mirrors dead)
  • Flash 10.2.152.32 for portable browsers (MegaUpload) (FileSonic) (both mirrors dead)
  • Flash 10.2.152.26 for portable browsers (MegaUpload) (FileSonic) (both mirrors dead)

Finally if you’re interested in even older versions, here are:

Bonus: megaupload and filesonic directories with all my Flash Portable uploads (I think) (NB: the MegaUpload one also contains a few other portable things):

NB: in Windows 7, when it’s installed using the installer, Flash can be found in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed for the 32 bits version and C:\Windows\System32\Macromed for the 64 bits version (yes, that looks pretty illogical but that’s the way it is :D)

Thanks a lot! Can you explain how to extract the xpi from the new adobe installer?

Well there’s no XPI in the installer, there are just some files, among which the “VIP” NPSWF32.dll. I don’t know how to extract it straight form the installer. Most methods described here and there on the web are for (much) older versions of Flash, and I’ve never manage to successfully apply them to any Flash 10.x version. So, to get those files, I just install Flash normally (i.e., run the installer), then grab the file from the installation folder (as mentioned at the end of the post).

I can’t thank you enough, Cockroach dude; I find myself coming here repeatedly, every time I have to update or reinstall Flash in my FF portable browser. How has Adobe not taken care of this yet? Surely they know it’s sorely needed. Thank you, a million times, thank you!

You’re welcome πŸ™‚ Otherwise, I think they just don’t really care, there isn’t really much demand for it (we’re in the 10-30 downloads per day max, more in the 10, indeed) and the job gets done by me anyway. It’s win-win, I get a little bit of traffic, they get an unofficial and unsupported portable version πŸ˜€

On a side note, you do realize current version is somewhere around 11.1, right? πŸ˜‰
