About a year ago, we added AbBard ads to Wiki4Games. By that time, they didn’t allow displaying ads from other networks, so we kept Adsense everywhere else in order to reach the cash-out threshold before moving everything to AdBard. At some point AdBard allowed back other networks so we added Adsense back to speed up the process, but we forgot to spread AdBard across the rest of our websites. This is now done for this notepad. So we now run AdBard and Adsense. The plan, yet, is still to remove Adsense as soon as we’ve been able to cash out there, leaving only AdBard plus some selected affiliate links like Everest (I’m not really happy with the junk we see in Adsense right now, like spintop-games.com or lastchaos.fr).
For those who don’t know it yet, the great thing about AdBard is that they focus on “FLOSS” (free/libre/open source software). Not only for their advertisers, but also for publishers. So you’ll only see ads for open source stuff there, and you’ll only see those ads on websites somewhat related to FLOSS too (for instance here, we sure talk about Windows and – more recently – Dr Who, but we also have quite a lot of stuff about MediaWiki, Linux, Firefox, etc). So, finally “ethical” advertising. Don’t forget to add en exception to your AdBlock Plus for us

Cleaning out my closet

At first I created this notepad to try out Blogspot and to complement MPAM Rebooted. I didn’t really have a need for it, thus it remained almost empty for a while, and to populate it I used it kind of like a Digg bookmark manager… which turned out to be rather terrible in terms of PageRank and such. Then I updated MPAM Rebooted less and less often, to a point where this notepad is actually the most active part of Patheticcockroach.com. So I thought it’s time for a clean up. I’ll be deleting all old Digg semi-auto posts. This will clean the archives and hopefully help the site in search engines. As I don’t want to lose my bookmarks, I’ll still keep all the links (well, actually, only the ones which look still interesting 3 years later), and I’ll start here:

Starting immediately, users must register to post comments. Sorry about this, but we are simply receiving far too much Chinese (yeah, g** Chinese s***ers again) spam. It’s caught by Akismet, but still, it inflates the moderation queue and the comment database primary key. It’s really a total pity that the default available anti-spam plugin uses complicated algorithms in the purpose to still store the spam in the database, while a captcha would be so much easier, as well as helpful to keep the comment_ID from auto incrementing at mad speed… Unregistered posting will become available again once I find a decent captcha plugin. And no, I don’t want to use the reCAPTACHA one.

Hello,

Welcome to the new version of this “blog”, more appropriately finally renamed to notepad. I finally found the import from blogger button (lol), so the move was quickly done. The downside of this is that we probably won’t ever remove the old, Digg-mirror posts. Anyway, from now on, no more calling this a blog
