We do care about privacy. However, unfortunately, most visitors don’t… which is why we chose to give in to social plugins such as Google’s +1 AddThis and Facebook’s Like, as well as adding back Google ads AdBrite (Ad Bard, the free software advertising network that we’d been using exclusively for more than a year, closed in July 2011). If you want to prevent such third-party websites to track you, you can install the Ghostery extension (works with Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Google Chrome – no Opera version yet, I’m afraid).
We also use a locally run stats tracking software, Piwik. The data collected by Piwik are anonymous and contain things such as provenance, keywords used to find us, destination when leaving the site, country, IP, etc. Those data don’t go to third-party websites and are useful to us to know what our visitors (you!) are interested in, in order to try and provide more relevant contents. However, if you don’t want those data to be collected, you can opt-out below.
About privacy in comments
When commenting, you don’t need to provide an e-mail, and not even your name. Your IP will, however, be recorded, because that’s how the software (WordPress) works. But feel free to post from Tor or something
