Overpopulation, anyone?

I don’t really have the time to feed the notepad at the moment. Yet I’m not dead either, so I thought I’d post a little something I stumbled upon while working on obesity things:

I’ll let you appreciate those the way you want… To make it short: worldwide, food prices are twice as high now as they were in 2002-2004. However, as far as cereals are concerned, the production is able to keep up with consumption… for the moment, at least. To my knowledge there’s not big crisis which might explain those price increases. From the look of it, the big spikes are probably helped by some speculations, but the underlying trend still strongly looks like “there won’t be enough for too long” or at least “past some certain level, it becomes difficult to produce always more”.
