A few months ago I posted a pretty severe rant against Nokia’s Ovi, which at the time was simply failing to install. I was forgetting that there’s always a way things can possibly go worse and this case was no exception.
Yesterday I happily managed to install the latest version of Nokia Ovi Suite (3.1.1.75). And since my E65 was starting to get seriously messed up, I thought eh, why not jump on the occasion to flash the firmware? My version was around 1.x, the latest available version around 2.x, this sounded like a neat way to try and fix things.
So I made a backup (photos, contacts, etc.), and launched the update. Both the phone and the laptop I used for the update were plugged in and protected against electricity blackouts (fully charged batteries). During the upgrade process I just went elsewhere to be sure I wouldn’t disturb it. When I came back, I had an error message basically saying “something went wrong, please try again”… but of course, the phone refused to boot… RIP my phone… In my disappointment I didn’t have the reflex to take a screenshot of the error message. Too bad, it would have been a nice collector. On the plus side, I’m replacing it with a C5-00. Not a massive upgrade, but still this new one shouldn’t be nearly as wacky as the old one had become 😉
