A few days ago while browsing around SRWare Iron forums, I stumbled upon some benchmarks about how Iron was fast. I thought I’d make an independent check with my current browsers.
Materials used
Hardware: Acer Aspire 5553G:
- AMD Phenom 2 X4 Mobile N930
- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650, 1 GiB VRAM, up to 2687 MB HyperMemory
- 4 GiB DDR3 RAM
Software:
- Futuremark Peacekeeper version 28 October 2010
- Windows 7 x64 Enterprise all patches up-to-date
- ATI Catalyst 10.8
- SRWare Iron 7.0.520.0, Opera 11 alpha (build 1029), Firefox 4.0b8pre Gecko/20101027, Firefox 3.6.12, MSIE 9.0 beta, Safari 5.0.2
Results
- Iron 7.0.520.0: 5754 (100%)
- Opera 11: 5735 (99.7%)
- Safari 5.0.2: 3625 (63.0%)
- Firefox 4.0b8pre: 3361 (58.4%)
- Firefox 3.6.12: 2083 (36.2%)
- MSIE 9: 2044 (35.5%)
Iron 7 and Opera 11 are tied. Safari, the other WebKit browser, is third, a few points better than Firefox 4, which is itself more than 50% faster than Firefox 3.6 and MSIE 9.
Of course I won’t be testing Chrome. Many more benchmarks are available on SRWare Iron forums, in [Benchmark] Iron v7.0.520.0 VS Chrome v7.0.517.41.
